He passed HSC from the Dhaka College and in 1965 obtained MBBS degree from Dhaka Medical College with distinction marks in Pharmacy and Forensic Medicine. He was honored with Col. Jafrey Gold Medal for best performance in Pakistan in the FCPS Medicine examination of 1970 under the University of Dhaka. In 1997 he received the D. Phil Degree in Gastroenterology from the University of Oxford, UK. Prof. AK Azad Khan has more than 120 scientific publications in the reputed international and national journals. He has also contributed chapters in five books on medical sciences.
